Japan Airlines operations were disrupted by a cyberattack on Thursday morningdream club, causing delays to both domestic and international flights.

For part of the day, the airline stopped booking tickets for flights departing on Thursday, and its mobile app was temporarily disabled.

Much of the world’s efforts to combat climate change focus on reducing carbon dioxide emissions, which result largely from the burning of fossil fuels like coal, oil and gas, and whose heat-trapping particles can linger in the atmosphere for hundreds of years. But methane’s effects on the climate — which have earned it the moniker “super pollutant” — have become better appreciated recently, with the advent of more advanced leak-detection technology, including satellites.

In an update on Thursday afternoon, Japan Airlines, known as JAL, said it had resumed sales of same-day tickets and restored the system that had been affected by the cyberattack. It said no customer information was leaked.

JAL had said earlier that at 7:24 a.m., it identified a problem with equipment connecting the company’s internal systems to external networks. About 90 minutes later, JAL temporarily shut down the router device responsible for the problems.

More than 40 flights were delayed at various airports across Japan as of around noon on Thursday, according to the public broadcaster NHK. Data from FlightAware, a service that tracks airline routes, indicated that about 40 percent of Japan Airlines’ flights were delayed on Thursday.

The airline said that some domestic flights, but no international flightsdream club, were canceled. It added that the incident had no affect on the safety of its flights and that it was investigating to determine who carried out the cyberattack.
